Foodshop at Nagoya Train Station

Japanese Lunch

If you need lunch while you are at the train station in Japan, it is not difficult because many shops sell food, including lunch. Of course food is Japanese food, lunch is usually rice and meat or fish or shrimp as well as Asian food. But sometimes there are also order of vegetables, but the noodle is a bit light.

A litle Europe or American food may be rarely found, except in the big stations will be found, such as fast food or fried chicken or burger. Japan money in 1000 yen, or approximately 9 US dollar you will get enough lunch.

Is Shinkansen always on time...?!

Shinkansen waiting for Typhoon up to 12 hours in Hiroshima station

Shinkansen not always on time, sometimes also experienced delays or delay departure. My husband had experienced a delay departure until 12 hours in Hiroshima station, this is caused by bad weather and typhoon. Thypoon in Japan ussualy occurs around July to November. Thypoon sometimes bring heavy rains and high wind velocity starting from 241 km/h and 67 m/s as superthypoon.

Shinkansen, which is relatively lightweight aluminum body may have a sufficient risk of an accident with a high-speed wind. With passenger safety reasons then the departure delay is a wise choice. Unlike the subway train (Chikatetsu) that runs on tunnel (under the land), the subway is relatively safe to use by the passenger at the time of typhoon season. But subway usually use for short traveling.

The passengers who have business dealings may have to choose other alternatives travel when Shinkansen having delays departure. Japan may need to think more in terms of long travel on the issue when there are typhoon season.

Shinkansen, who was sleep in its Cabin..?

If you travel with Shinkansen, you may feel like travelling with Jumbo Jet Airplane such as : Boeing 747, 767; or Airbus 300. The good suspension system; accurate flexibility body movement on bogey make all passengers are comfortable lying in theirs seat. All outside noises will absorb by the body wall that made by aluminum alloy at outer sides, soundproof materials at core, and polymers materials is inside.

Most of passengers could sleep after ten minutes of theirs sitting. All of them will looks like a baby who swing by his mother; sometimes looks move swaying like a falling leaf. All of them looks don’t have any worry about theirs stop. What happen if some of them are get lost and passing away of theirs stop. Or maybe they dreams that they already at home.

Sometimes the conductor girl checks the passenger by randomly; like remedial inspection, perhaps somebody needs her help. Sometimes they right the passengers sleep position. Why this do not happen in our home..?

Building of Shinkansen (Bullet Trains)

Japan's CO2 Robot Welding Machines

CO2 Welding Procces

In 1964 the first Shinkansen opened for serves fast traveling between Tokyo and Osaka, this line call the Tokaido Line, remembering Tokaido Road that had linked Edo (Tokyo) and Kyoto in samurai times. Then followed by extending the line to Osaka, for creating new line to Hiroshima and Fukuoka in Kyushu. This line call Sanyo Line.

Shinkansen Train made in Rolling Stock manufactures in Japan, the major fabrication process is Welding. There are many types of Welding process applied to fabricate Suinkansen Trains; such as : Electric Resistance Welding; Seam and Spot Welding, CO2 MAG Welding, SMAW Welding, Robots Welding, and Laser Welding.

The train bogey (which hold wheels, suspension system, brake system, and some of electrics motors) made by CO2 MAG Robot Welding type. Train bogey needs high accurate in dimension and quality, because of its prime function in train systems. Laser Welding usually use for weld of different thick dimensions of metal plates. Laser and Seam also Spot Welding applied to the outer body which needs aerodynamics performance and beauty appearance. The trains bogey made from high quality alloy steel which needs of strength and ability to hold fatigue life. Train outer body made from Aluminums Alloys (could be 6061 Duralumin or 7075); which needs strength, aerodynamics performance and light. Those Aluminium Alloy materials were same as that use for making Jumbo Jet outer body. The wheels and axle made by foundry fabricators with casting process; these needs strength, ductile, high energy absorbs and wears resistance.

One of train body usually carried by 2 (two) of train bogey; this train body place on the bogey with high accuracy flexible movement. This flexible movement accuracy to be important for high speed traveling in railway with have high radius. This condition also to demand trains body construction have high fatigues life. One of the bogey has 2 up to 4 electric motors that will powered the trains.

Shinkansen Nozomi is the Favorites Class

The Shinkansen Nozomi Train for Tokyo in Shin of Osaka.

For the Shinkansen Trains, there are three types; but some people call about this types as "class" : Nozomi, Hikari, and Kodama.

Nozomi
The meaning is hope, the Nozomi trains are the fastest trains on these lines. It will takes about 2.5 hours between Tokyo and Osaka, and roughly 5 hours from Tokyo all the way to Hakata (Fukuoka-Kyushu). This trains make only major stops such as Nagoya, Kyoto, Okayama and Hiroshima.

Hikari
The meaning is light, it was the original Shinkansen trains on the Tokaido/Sanyo Line. Since the launch of the Nozomi trains, it now serves as the mid level and making a few more stops, but still very fast. Hikari trains traveling between Tokyo and Osaka in about three hours. The ticket price from Nagoya to Tokyo is about 10000 up to 12000 Japan Yen, it is around 100 US Dollar.

Kodama
Kodama is the local version of the Shinkansen, the trains makes all primary and secondary stops, more stop than Hikari. But it is still fast, the trains will make stop in little station like : Odawara , Hakone Park and Mt. Fuji or Himeji.

In my opinion most of Japanese are prosperous, they don't care about trains ticket prices. They had an objectives of theirs travel; such as : business, privates that they may stop in certain station, or just make a picnic.
